This year I was extremely fortunate to take a trip of a life time to America! Starting off with flying into Los angeles, we drove to Coachella Valley to go to COACHELLA festival, – a life long fashion dream for me – which was incredible. After partying hard we retired to Palm springs for 3 days, before heading to Vegas for more fun and frolics, then back to Los Angeles for a week.
Coachella was epic, and I will hopefully share some pictures with you soon, but seen as well I have already created some prints on Palm Springs I thought I would write about this first.
Palm Springs blew my mind with inspiration, so much colour, style and creativity! I completely fell head over heals in love with the place, and have been obsessed with Palm Springs style ever since. (When I say obsessed that might actually be an understatement).
The two palm springs prints I have created basically epitomise my incredible stay at The Saguaro. So it makes complete sense to share this experience and inspiration first.
The Saguaro is a 1970’s built hotel on Canyon Drive in the heart of Palm Springs. In 2012 it was given a make over by NYC based architects Stamburg Alferiat, (Peter Stamburg and Paul Alferiat). Inspired by the artists and large leaders of the op art movement in the 1960’s – Victor Vasarely and Yaakov Agam, the idea was to use mainly the power of colour to uplift the resort. Influenced by colours from desert flowers, the colour was applied to each hotel room in a colour spectrum sequence, emphasising both light and colour as your walk around the pool area. Suddenly the hotel transformed from a dull khaki green cacti camouflaging colour, to a white canvas with a colourful artistic pop of colour which is different from every angle!! ( I couldn’t get enough of this, I wanted to sunbathe from every angle – loved it)
Another thing, that really blew me away was the view of the mountains, peering in, over the roof of the hotel. Seriously, staring at the mountains whilst being served on hand and foot, by the extremely attentive pool side waiter service was honestly everything you need and more after festival camping in the desert. Thank you so much The Saguaro.
Any hows, I hope my holiday snaps do justice our incredible trip, and I hope you like the little insight and background inspiration behind my two fave Palm Springs prints I have created.
The breakfast burrito above and the pool side frozen cocktails below were out of hand! Just too good!
Dear Palm Springs and The Saguaro you were a complete dream, and I hope to be back swimming with Fred the flamingo as soon as possible..
